A night to celebrate our global health community

On 26 June 2025, CGHP’s annual Impact Celebration and Awards brought together a vibrant network of healthcare professionals, academics and global health advocates to share and reflect on the learnings and impact of global health collaborations.

Held at AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and sponsored by CGHP’s pro-bono partner Costello Medical, the evening welcomed a great turnout, including Roland Sinker (Chief Executive, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), Dame Mary Archer (Co- Chair, Cambridge Children’s Hospital and President of CGHP), and Fiona Smith-Laittan, VP Global Health Strategy and Partnerships at GlaxoSmithKline and CGHP Chair.

The event also welcomed distinguished keynote speakers Professor Sassy Molyneux and Dr Abdul Imam from the University of Oxford, underlining national recognition of the global health partnerships and projects supported by CGHP. They highlighted the critical role that nurses play in the care of newborns in public hospitals in Kenya, and shared findings from a multi-disciplinary intervention study that underscored the toll of current workloads and the importance of multi-layered change processes to strengthen services.

Showcasing the contribution of East of England NHS staff

The Impact Celebration is an opportunity to focus on the incredible contributions of East of England based NHS staff and international partners working to improve health outcomes through reciprocal learning and shared expertise.

From providing healthcare to refugees in Jordan, to improving access to hearing care in Malawi, to sharing expertise in HIV care between Zimbabwe and the UK, our five lightning presenters gave a powerful snapshot of the breadth and depth of the partnerships and projects that CGHP supports. They demonstrated how the health partnership model empowers staff to share knowledge, develop expertise and co-create sustainable solutions with colleagues around the world.

“NHS staff bring incredible passion and commitment to their work in global health,” said CGHP Director, Evelyn Brealey. “These partnerships exemplify the power of two-way learning, and the contributions we’re celebrating tonight benefit healthcare workers and their patients far beyond national borders.”

We look forward to continuing to grow this community, and strengthening and expanding the heath partnerships we support.
