CGHP launches emergency appeal for Myanmar

On Friday 28 March 2025 a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck close to Myanmar’s second largest city, Mandalay. More than 1,600 people have been killed and over 3,400 people known to have been injured, so far. A state of emergency has been declared in six areas of Myanmar.

The quake comes on top of four years of civil war in Myanmar following a military coup in 2021 that has caused the collapse of the healthcare system.

How you can help

In June 2021, thanks to the dedication of healthcare workers from Myanmar and with support from Cambridge Global Health Partnerships (CGHP), a free online telemedicine service was established, providing essential online clinics for patients across the country. To date it has delivered over 200,000 tele-consultations to more than 72,000 people thanks to an incredible network of dedicated and experienced volunteer doctors and healthcare staff.

CGHP has supported a health partnership with Myanmar for more than ten years. We have valued colleagues and friends who have been affected directly by this tragedy. At this time of desperate need we are working together with our partners to provide all the help and support that we can.

The devastation of the earthquake is making access to healthcare near impossible in the hardest hit areas. Demand for the service is higher than ever, but the team have reacted quickly, extending the hours of operation for mental health teleclinics to provide immediate psychological support to survivors.

Funds are urgently required to help our partners sustain and expand this vital work. Their experience and knowledge of the Myanmar environment means they are best placed to increase access to healthcare where it’s most urgently needed. We’ve launched an emergency appeal to support them and provide a vital lifeline for the people of Myanmar.

Funds raised will help to:

  • Provide patients with immediate online access to dedicated healthcare professionals with a focus on trauma care and mental health support.
  • Collaborate with clinics and community-based organisations to supply hygiene kits, water, medicine and first aid supplies.
  • Coordinate with teams in Myanmar to provide a crash course in psychological first aid training.

Whether you can donate £5 or £500. ALL donations will make a difference to what can be achieved.
