Meeting Myanmar telehealth team members for the first time

A small CGHP team and a public health registrar who is an East of England Global Health Fellow are in Thailand this week meeting Myanmar telehealth programme partners face-to-face for the first time.

It is nearly four years since the military coup of February 2021, and accessing medical care in Myanmar is still almost impossible for many. CGHP, in collaboration with local and ethnic health organisations in Myanmar and other international agencies, has been supporting the delivery of telehealth services to the country’s population through a network of experienced volunteer doctors and other healthcare staff.

As well as connecting with one another in person for the first time, the week-long visit is an opportunity for the teams to work together to conduct a thorough review of the work done and to plan for continuing. The aim is to grow the programme’s capacity to deliver more telehealth services, to ensure its continuing effectiveness and to develop innovative solutions so that health services can reach vulnerable individuals and communities in such a challenging conflict affected environment. Work this week is also focusing on developing plans to build quality assurance mechanisms for the telehealth services with input and guidance from volunteer UK based doctors.
