Opportunity for long-term voluntary placement in Kampala

Are you a nurse, midwife or doctor with interest and experience in maternal guideline development and training? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a health partnership team working internationally to improve midwifery and obstetric care in two of Uganda’s busiest maternity hospitals in the capital city of Kampala.

Kawempe National Referral Hospital and Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital manage more than 28,000 births every year. This project is working to update and strengthen adherence to maternal and neonatal health guidelines and is having a direct impact on the clinical care women and children receive in Uganda.

To date there have been educational workshops and teaching sessions in person and virtually to improve the knowledge, understanding and confidence of the hospital staff about management of obstetric emergencies. Audits have also been conducted on the management of sepsis, post-partum haemorrhage, and pre-eclampsia cases, alongside interviews with key staff members regarding the implementation of the current guidelines.
