Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB-GYN) is a medical specialty that focuses on two primary areas: obstetrics, which involves pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, and gynaecology, which deals with the health of the female reproductive system – from adolescence through to menopause and beyond. Obstetrics covers prenatal care, labour and delivery and postnatal care, while Gynaecology covers reproductive health, menstrual issues, reproductive system disorders, infertility and cancer. Subspecialties include Maternal-Foetal Medicine (Perinatology), Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynaecologic Oncology and Urogynaecology. Obstetrics and Gynaecology practitioners are involved in the CGHP-supported Maternal and Neonatal Health Partnership with Uganda.
